This is the 8th post in an 8-part series of the “SPLENDID” Approach to Holistic Management of MCAS. If you missed the prior articles, click here to start from the beginning.
If anything, I’ve saved the best for last!
Having a good grasp on dietary approaches is KEY for a holistic healing plan.
Here are some resources for different topics relating to diet with MCAS:
- My Two Cents on Diet: Plant-Based & Low-Toxin Eating
- The Low-Histamine Approach
- The Low-Salicylate Diet
- The Importance of a Well-Training Nutritionist
I hope that you enjoy the above articles. Every patient is different, and many need to work with an integrative provider (like a functional medicine doc or naturopath) before they are able to reduce food sensitivities and enjoy more diverse food options. It’s not an overnight approach by any means, and it’s also important to stay in your own lane and avoid comparison to others. Repeatedly sending oneself into anaphylaxis by trying to expand the diet is NOT the best approach, as this increases overall inflammation and reactivity and is taxing on the system. But if you can reduce the underlying factors related to mast cell overactivity (see this article on “stressors to health”), then over time, a more healing dietary approach can be adopted.
